The Intimate World of Colour. Gallery of Fine Art, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh

August 23, 2008 8:00 am - September 9, 2008 5:00 pm

In the exhibition titled The Intimate World of Colour—which took place at the Gallery of Fine Art of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh Hamiduzzaman Khan showcased both watercolour and acrylic paintings. He did a number of paintings on the theme of human face. Some faces seemed to be primitive, tribal, and unfamiliar. The faces were not identical and each face expressed a unique explanation and look. His composition was styled with geometric shapes and lines. The exhibition was significant for one reason that art lovers could enjoy painting and watercolour simultaneously. Hamiduzzaman internalised the inner essence of nature in many of his works. Celebration of colours and lines created emotional and psychological depth in his works. His acrylic and watercolour paintings seem to be a flowing stream. He tried to capture the mystery of nature and its different phases. Semi-abstraction of landscape, and the transparency of the watercolour technique, enhanced his use of the background as a romantic view. He utilised space in paintings in hierarchical manner rather than perspective. The relationship among the elements in his paintings portrayed his experimentation with abstraction.
