Nocturnal Shades. Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, Dhaka, Bangladesh

May 4, 2010 8:00 am - May 15, 2010 5:00 pm

The solo exhibition of artist-sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan, titled Nocturnal Shades, featured 40 watercolours on paper, 8 acrylic paintings on canvas and a number of sculptures at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts. Prof. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, inaugurated the exhibition. The watercolours and acrylics were predominantly inspired by natural landscape, city at night and interior arrangements. They were characterized by overwhelmingly black and ash, some with a balanced use of shades of red, yellow or blue. A number of the watercolours were pure abstract expressionist in terms of style. The acrylic paintings were on large canvases and highlighted luminescence as a consequence of the amalgamation of colours in layer upon layer. There were also works depicting human masks. The sculptural pieces at the exhibition were abstract forms in metal.
